History of Casa Felipe and the ecological project
Casa Felipe was the first hotel and restaurant in San Pedro la Laguna. When the hostel first opened it was eminently ecological, latrines were used back then, all beds and hammocks were made by Don Felipe, using maguey, wood products and petate. Dona Clara used to sell typical food, at this time, a breakfast was 20 cents of quetzals and a night in the hotel was for no more than 25 cents of quetzal.The whole building was made of mortar, an ecological mix of sand and dirt, this is why this construction is considered a very healthy thermal structure.
When the hostel opened the first time, the whole city had approximately 25 tourists at the time, the only way to get to San Pedro la Laguna was trough a boat ride from Panajachel. Transportation was available 3 times a week, if someone happen to miss the boat ride, they would’ve had to wait two or three days before the next ride goes out.

After being inactive for two decades, Casa Felipe reopened three years ago. Although the space has been renovated, we still remain an ecologically friendly hostel. Now a days the building remains with certain modifications. We maintain these ecological tendencies by keeping the same hygiene practices and its septic system to filtrate the water. Those efforts have the purpose of keeping LAKE ATITLAN CLEAN. Now Casa Felipe is able to receive up to 35 guests at the time. There is boat rides arriving from Panajachel every 20 minutes and plenty of buses arriving from the capital city or Xela. Antigua Guatemala also offers different shuttle companies coming this way on a daily basis.

We offer 5 private rooms and 3 dorms to get rest after your journey. In the large fully equipped kitchen you will find everything you need to feel like home and prepare your own meals. Each day we offer free coffee for our guests and the possibility to try a delicious homemade hot supper. Once you taste it you will love it! In the evening there is a time to socialize with other guest playing billiard or sipping colorful drinks served straight from the Guatemalan designed bamboo bar.
